Miller F. Whittaker Library

"In 1967, South Carolina State College received $1m. from the South Carolina Assembly and the Higher Education Facilities Act to build a new library. The new structure, the Miller F. Whittaker Library was dedicated in 1969. The library was named in honor of Dr. Miller F. Whittaker, the third president of South Carolina State University. The library consisted of two floor levels and a lower level. In 1979, a third level - the mezzanine floor, was added to increase the seating and shelving capacity for users and resources. The library's integrated online system was implemented in 1991. Users have access to the collection through a computerized system." Quoted from library website http://library.scsu.edu/library.html

Music James Brown Video

"James Brown's influence transcends his lifetime and his country. He was the most influential figure in the entertainment industry in the 20th Century. He transformed the concert arena into a full entertainment experience and made his mark on every aspect of society including fashion and style, music, dance, business, politics and social action. It is both exciting and appropriate that the I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium was selected to preserve the legacy of the Godfather of Soul." Quoted from the information packet on James Brown Exhibit given at S.C. State's I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium.

"James Brown was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina, had a difficult childhood, but decided to create his estate in Beech Island, South Carolina. He was an amateur astronomer. Brown was committed to educating young people who needed assistance in getting an education. As a social activist, he spook out for social injustice and was "Black and Proud". The Stanback is proud to present this bigger than life figure that made a huge imprint on the world." Quoted from the information packet on James Brown Exhibit given at S.C. State's I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium.

Do it for the Vine...James Brown Style!

South Carolina State University has a James Brown Tribute on its campus. The James Brown Tribute is at the I.P. Stanback Museum. It shows the influence that James Brown had on society. The effects that James Brown had on the American society is grand, from music, dance, and style to politics. James Brown left so much more than a impact he left an imprint. From influencing the dress styles of Elvis and Prince to having music samples in very famous songs by artist Jay-Z and Kanye West. The influence of James Brown can hardly be contained in the Stanback Museum, that's why I bought that influence to the vine. Hit it one time James Brown!!!!!!

And along with the here are some of my classmates reactions to the James Brown Tribute! Hey!

Bull.Barb. Commercial

New students often struggle with college expense and have tight funds. Being tight with money, most of these students also don't know the surroundings of Orangeburg. Many students do not even have transportation. As students we're always looking for the least expensive services but yet quality. Where could that be though? Is it close and inexpensive but provides me with character? Exploring around campus with my fellow bulldogs, I found a place that works and answers all those questions! As well as saves money but provides uniqueness to each of its customers.

Creative Pictures

Here is a thought that I made into art. I took different elements and brought them together as one. So several things combined into one final image. I created these images using an Adobe program called InDesign. I choose to do the idea of Mardi Gras because I like what it represents. Even though it is known as "Fat Tuesday" it is one of our country's most festive events. From masks to music and so much more...Here's my creative glance as to how I see it.

The Hypochondriac's Dream

In a sense we are always attached to our phones, whether listening to music or avidly texting. But what if our phones became us, knowing our health, our family, even our touch?

As apple states about its iwatch, "All watches tell time. This one helps you make the most of it" from analyzing your regular calendar schedule to checking on an irregular heartbeat. Here's the doctor and more on your wrist. I feel as though apple has gotten out of hand with this new product. The distinction between a human being and technology is becoming less distinguishable.

No doubt technology is efficient and has its great uses but there is a moment where we have to detach and come to reality. If a product like iwatch was introduced in the 90's... Come on. No everyone is going to keep there rolex. I like the old fashioned classic items. Those items are worth what you pay and last a lot longer. If I invest in an iwatch there is just going to be an iwatch 2.3 the next day. Sometimes ridiculous just reaches a whole new level, and humans have to decide where the point is to say so.

Massacre in Orangeburg

Segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things. In the year of 1968, in the small secluded area of Orangeburg, South Carolina, this definition was made into an example. What happens when corrupt rules are realized and the justification and explanation for those rules raises a valid point?...What happens when those who are set apart come together, to challenge corruption, as one?

I can only show it to you as I saw it through my eyes...A Little Girl's Eyes (Lenny Kravitz)

Likes and Dislikes Of Television

What I like most about television today is that it has the ability to cover more now more than ever. Which mean viewers today have more access to all types of knowledge just from watching television each day. Television today also has become more bolder as far as the content that is being shown as well as more odd creativity is being shown today.

Content is bolder now based upon all the reality shows that are out. Primarily the reality shows started off small, there were already shows like Jerry Springer and such but this was becoming a different type of drama.

Literally viewers would be watching people's lives and how that type of drama unfolded. Shows such as Jersey Shore and The Housewives of EVERY County became top watched weekly shows within this new drama. What I dislike about television is what it is become. Not doubt the progress amazes me, but the progression of what is being displayed disturbs me.

To be a housewife was seen as prideful and elegant. Now it has become equal drama and destruction. Even the families who are on the show are suffering from the backlash. But greed is a powerful thing, that has seem to take over our society more now than ever. And television is there to display it.
