"James Brown's influence transcends his lifetime and his country. He was the most influential figure in the entertainment industry in the 20th Century. He transformed the concert arena into a full entertainment experience and made his mark on every aspect of society including fashion and style, music, dance, business, politics and social action. It is both exciting and appropriate that the I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium was selected to preserve the legacy of the Godfather of Soul." Quoted from the information packet on James Brown Exhibit given at S.C. State's I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium.
"James Brown was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina, had a difficult childhood, but decided to create his estate in Beech Island, South Carolina. He was an amateur astronomer. Brown was committed to educating young people who needed assistance in getting an education. As a social activist, he spook out for social injustice and was "Black and Proud". The Stanback is proud to present this bigger than life figure that made a huge imprint on the world." Quoted from the information packet on James Brown Exhibit given at S.C. State's I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium.
